In the past 17 years, I have had the privilege and honour of officiating hundreds of uniquely personalized, non-denominational ceremonies for several wonderful couples, in The Niagara Region. Even though it has been mentioned to me several times in the past, I never realized until a few years into my work how profound a meaningful and touching ceremony could be for a couple, their family, close friends & guests.

I can’t tell you what it means to receive a thank you note from a couple (and often times their parents!), expressing how touched they were by the words and emotion in their wedding ceremony. Comments like ‘there wasn’t a dry eye in the house’ or ‘you captured the essence of us as a couple just perfectly’, are words that continue to touch my soul. How incredible it is to be part of one of the most important days of someone’s life! I have been given a gift to share, and it means more to me than I could ever express to you in words.

I pride myself on composing and delivering a very unique and heartfelt ceremony that reflects the feelings and emotions of the couple who invests their faith and trust in me to do so. The first same sex wedding I performed several years ago, was a pivotal moment in my life. I decided after that first wedding, that I would be a beacon of love, light & kindness for every couple, no matter what their sexual orientation!

Quite honestly, the thought of performing a marriage ceremony for a couple of the same sex was something I was apprehensive about the first time I was asked to do so. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do it, I just didn’t know how I would feel about it in the process.

You see, I didn’t grow up with any friends who were gay, nor did I know anyone who was gay for most of my adult life. So really, what I thought I knew, was what I had learned from other ‘well-meaning’ people. Sometimes, what I was told didn’t leave a very positive impression in my mind. And that’s where God stepped in! (When I say ‘God’, I’m not referring to any particular religion, I’m referring to the Universal invisible energy that exists everywhere; in all things. It is The Source that is; that gives life to you, me and the leaves on the trees. God is the only name I’ve ever known to give that ‘all–knowing’ energy. It is that essence to which I pray to and talk with each day while taking my morning walk or driving in my car.) God is my partner in every decision I make in my life whether personal or business. So, in light of this, I know it was a gentle nudge from Him that put me in the path of my first same-sex marriage.

I was pleasantly surprised by my reaction, the first time I met with a lesbian couple to discuss their ceremony plans and ideas. To my amazement, there was no ‘reaction’. In fact, I didn’t feel anything different. I felt as if everything (meaning they), were ‘normal’! They had a warm & inviting home, they had great jobs they enjoyed, and together, this beautiful couple was creating a huge wedding in a popular venue with many supportive family & friends present! My reaction puzzled me because I thought I should be feeling something different; after all, that’s what ‘they’ always told me I would feel!

The wedding came and went. And quite honestly, it was one of the most incredible weddings I’ve had the honour of officiating (and witnessing). There was magic in the air, and everything was simply beautiful! The only thing different (than any other wedding I had officiated to that point), was that there were two lovely brides instead of one gorgeous bride and a handsome groom. From that moment on, I opened my heart to all same-sex couples who needed someone in their corner to help them make their special day just as wonderful as any heterosexual couple would want.

I am determined that I will be the one you are seeking who will give you the compassion, love and consideration you deserve.

I am the person who will accept you for who you are…simply because! I will hear your needs, and listen to your hearts desire, so together we can create a heartfelt and meaningful ceremony that will leave an imprint on your soul for many years to come.
